Despite our climate, skin cancer is common and numbers in this country are fast increasing. However, it is important to note that skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and in the majority of cases; over exposure to UV rays is the cause.
The majority of skin cancers are observed after increasing exposure to UV rays and for those who have suffered sun burn.
Due to the school timetables and increasing demand for outdoor classrooms, children are often exposed to UV when it is at its strongest, between 11am – 3pm.
The ideal would be the implementation of a sun safe policy, ensuring hats and sunscreen are worn at all times – however unfortunately this may not be that straight forward.
A Shade Sail provides the perfect solution for schools looking to provide a novel outdoor classroom and an exciting experience for children to learn and enjoy being outdoors without the concern of over exposure harmful UV rays.
At Safe Shade we offer a comprehensive, free of charge design service utilising shadow prediction software. This is incorporated during the design process to ensure shade is provided where it is needed during the key times of day; guaranteeing both maximum effectiveness and protection.
Our responsible approach to design has gained the recognition of skin cancer charity, Skcin. Safe Shade is delighted to be associated with such an admirable charity that actively promotes awareness of safety in the sun, nationally throughout the year.
Skcin are keen to raise more awareness in schools of responsible sun messages, and educate children at an early age about the importance of being safe in the sun. For further information and advice on protection, prevention and detection of skin cancer please visit www.skcin.org.
The only way to ensure complete protection from the damaging effects of UV rays is shade.
