Ambleside Primary Vote for Shade Sails!

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Just as important as the General Election, Ambleside Primary School’s Shade Sail election!

Ambleside Primary School’s children voted for their favourite design and colours for the Shade Sails being installed into their  Nottingham playground.  The children all coloured in blank Shade Sail design  sheets to get involved and put their own stamp on their playground.  The final design voted by the children was by ‘DJ Rice and Famous’ and stage one of the installation is now happening.

‘It’s been a good experience and it’s fun to choose ourselves what goes up around the school’ – DJ Rice and Famous of Ambleside Primary School, Nottingham.

Ambleside Primary’s Shade Sail project

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Stage 1 of the Shade Sail installation  has commenced at Ambleside Primary School in Nottingham!
‘It’s a really exciting project for all involved as this is the first time (for us) that the children have been given the responsibility to be involved in every stage of the decision process…the children were so hard working and a pleasure to work with’ Safe Shade’s Operations Manager, Dagan Bradbury.

The children really got their teeth into the project and worked really well together. They looked thoroughly into the design, the importance of having shade in their playground and then presented their findings to the school’s board of Governors.

‘Working with an outside company has been an enjoyable experience and the children will love the sun shades’ comments Louisa a pupil involved in Ambleside Primary School’s Academy project.

For further comments from the children and photos please visit our project page.

Spring is finally here…phew.  The weather is more pleasant, the days are longer, we all feel a little happier and of course want to spend more time enjoying the great outdoors.

Our Shade Sails provide the perfect shade solution, and are completely bespoke.  Shade Sails are a stunning feature in your outdoor space, and allow you to still enjoy being outside without the worry of over exposure to harmful UV rays.

Our design team tailor the Shade Sails to suit both your shade requirements and budget.  We have two fabrics, one is showerproof, the other is waterproof – both importantly filter UV rays.  Available in a wide range of colours for shade fabric, support posts and safety padding - a great way to brighten up your outdoor space!

National School Grounds Week

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Every year Learning Through Landscapes (LTL) arrange the
National School Grounds Week.  A week long event that focusses on different themes to encourage schools to make the most of their outdoor spaces for both learning and play.  This year the theme is ‘Exhibition Mission’.   The aim is to get as many UK schools as possible to turn their playgrounds into art galleries, showcasing their work and projects – we think it’s a great idea!  LTL are encouraging schools to open their ‘Grounds into Galleries’ to parents and the community.  To find out more about this event and the great work that LTL do please click here.

Shade Sail designer gets her skates on!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

All at Safe Shade want to wish Jenny, one of our lovely designers good luck for Skaiti!
Jenny and her husband, Bryn, are taking part in the Skaiti event which is being held at Dunsfold Park, Surrey (the Top Gear track!) this Saturday.  It’s a 24hr skating event and all proceeds go to Shelterbox, a Cornwall based charity.  The money raised by Skaiti will be used to provide things that people really need: tents, blankets, mosquito nets, water purification tablets, tools, and cooking equipment. Every Shelterbox is supplied with essentials to keep 10 people secure in shelter, the one thing most needed after a disaster.  If you would like to support the event please click on the Skaiti link here, thank you. Good luck Jen and Bryn – we’ll be thinking of you!

Global Sun Shade!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/picture_gallery/07/programmes global_sunshade/html/1.stm
I stumbled across this great article on the BBC News website and couldn’t help but do a blog…British born astronomer, Roger Angel is a man on a sun shade mission!   He thinks that putting a giant shade in space could limit the amount of energy from the Sun reaching Earth. Mr Angel calculated that we would only need to block around 2% of the Sun’s rays to reduce global warming. It would apparently take a shade that is 100,000km wide, perhaps a little big for us, but we like the idea!

Ambleside Primary School

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

The Safe Shade team are preparing for stage 1 of the installation of Ambleside Primary School’s Shade Sails!  Above are some of the children’s illustrations and ideas from their academy project.  They were tasked with sourcing a Shade Sail supplier, analysing all the different quotations and deciding on the most cost effective solution for two seperate areas in their Nottingham primary school.  And then if that wasn’t enough, they did a very professional  presentation of their findings to the school’s board of Governors. Once the decisions were made on the design and shade prediction, they then focussed on the important bit – colours!  So many to choose from…posts, safety padding and the shade fabric itself!  They all then voted for what they thought would be the best design for their school.  Well done all at Ambleside, we’re really looking forward to seeing the final install!

Safe Shade Chickens

"Happy Easter"

Happy Easter from our recently rescued battery hens.  They have been laying eggs all week in time for Easter.  We have 20 already from just 6 hens over 5 days – well done girls!  I’m sure the Safe Shade team will soon be full up on these wonderful eggs, as well as the chocolate variety of course!

Think outside the classroom!

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

At Safe Shade we believe the design of an outdoor space is just as important as the inside.  Unfortunately playgrounds are often over looked when it comes to upgrading or even the design of a new school. Having the right equipment in place is key in order to transform the outdoor environment into a more practical, usable space.

Very soon (fingers crossed) the nicer weather will be here, let’s make the most of it!  Think of as many activities/lessons as you can that can be enjoyed outside the classroom.  It adds more to the experience, especially after we’ve all been couped up inside for so long!  And, who cares if it’s raining, with weatherproof Shade Sails for shelter!  Enjoy the outdoors!
